Space Research Institute National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and State Space Agency of Ukraine was established in April 1996 on the basis of Control Systems Department at the V.M.Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of NAS of Ukraine.
The key areas:
- Solar and Terrestial Connections and Space Weather;
- Space Information Systems and Technologies, Aerospace Data Processing Technologies;
- Space Materials Science;
- Development of Advanced Instrumentations for Space Research;
- Theory and methods of Sophisticated Space Dynamic Systems.
SRI NAS of Ukraine and SSA of Ukraine participates in the national and international research projects on the near-Earth space: POTENTIAL (on board SICH-2), IONOSAT-MICRO.
In Earth Observation various international projects are performed, among them ERA-PLANET project.
SRI NAS of Ukraine and SSA of Ukraine represents Ukraine in international space organizations and working groups (COSPAR, CEOS, GEO). UN-SPIDER (United Nations Platform for Space-Based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response) regional support center was established on the basis of SRI NAS and SSA of Ukraine.
SRI of Ukraine and SSA of Ukraine includes 5 research departments, employs nearly 100 staff among them: 1 member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 2 corresponding-members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 11 Doctors of sciences, 26 candidates of sciences, two doctors of Sciences are awarded with the rank of "Honored master of sciences and engineering of Ukraine".
The Scientific Council is chaired by Director of the Institute, Prof. Oleg Fedorov and Scientific secretary, candidate of engineering sciences Elena Nizhnichenko.
Lviv Center of Space Research Institute (LC SRI) was established in 1996 as the leading center of space instrumentation developments. Currently LC SRI employs over 100 experts which design equipment to electromagnetic measurements, information processing systems, ground facilities.
