Workshop on Earth Observation Based Information Products for Drought Risk Reduction at the National Level (EvIDENz) Project

On 14–15 of May in Kyiv a workshop on Earth Observation Based Information Products for Drought Risk Reduction at the National Level (EvIDENz) Project was held. The workshop was hosted by Space Research Institute of Ukraine.

Within the project Ukraine was considered as a pilot country for development of Earth Observation information products to monitor direct agricultural loss attributed to drought hazard effects on the economy that could be contribution to Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015-2030. In particular, developed workflow contribute to the assessment of the economic effects due to direct crop loss of a drought in the year 2015 for the Kyiv region in Ukraine.

During presentation session Project consortium represented project results. Participants from Space Research Institute presented SDG monitoring workflows within Geo Essential ERA-PLANET project that are under development now. Preliminary results on estimation SGD indicators 2.4.1 (Proportion of agricultural area under productive and sustainable agriculture) and 15.3.1 (Proportion of land that is degraded over total land area) as well as the proposed Nexus Approach for Essential Variables estimation were presented. Preliminary realization of developed workflows over Vlab infrastructure were presented.

During training that was held at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute users participated in practical session on draught risk indicators assessment from remote sensing data that aroused a lot of interest from participants.
