The final stage of work with the National Antarctic Center
Space Research Institute is the executor of the R&D "Modernization of the information system of the National Antarctic Data Center: system scaling and commissioning", which is being carried out in 2025 under contract with the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine. This development is the completion of a set of works on the creation of an information system of data obtained as a result of the implementation of national Antarctic scientific programs. The demonstration version of the system is open for review and use at the link https://data-facility.uac.gov.ua.
The Bureau of the Department of Informatics of the NAS of Ukraine approved the research project "Information technologies for monitoring changes in Ukraine's forest cover due to military actions based on geospatial data"
On June 26, 2025, at the meeting of the Bureau of the Department of Informatics of the NAS of Ukraine, the applied research project of the Space Research Institute of the NAS of Ukraine and the SSA of Ukraine "Information technologies for monitoring changes in Ukraine's forest cover due to military actions based on geospatial data" was approved.
The project aims to develop information technologies for comprehensive monitoring and assessment of changes in Ukraine's forest cover due to military actions based on integration of multimodal geospatial data and machine learning algorithms. In wartime conditions, traditional forest monitoring methods become inaccessible due to security restrictions, making space-based Earth observation systems the only available tool for objective assessment of forest cover condition.
The research includes development of machine learning algorithms for detecting forest cover damage, creation of tree cover density maps with 10-meter spatial resolution, analysis of change dynamics since the beginning of the war, and development of a web dashboard for results visualization. The project results will enable quantitative assessment of war damages and provide an information foundation for planning the restoration of Ukraine's forest resources. The project is scheduled for 2026-2028.
